The story of Tiny Little Nest began while I was awaiting the birth of my son. I found that there was very little to offer in regular stores for his nursery that suited my unique style and my desire to make less of an impact on the environment. The products I saw were based on genderspecific stereotypes and made from cheap, flimsy and unsustainable materials. I drew on my artistic

background and passion for papercut artworks and came up with the idea for my very first Woodland Animal themed nursery décor set.

In 2012 I took the plunge to start my first business Yvonne Laube Designs. I was at home with my young son and I had an opportunity to focus on this new venture. Yvonne Laube Designs started with papercut nursery wall art and then translated into wooden mobiles, nightlights and accessories using a digital laser cutter. My Woodland Animals soon became my biggest seller in

that shop! I opened a second Etsy shop in 2014 and named it “Tiny Little Nest”. My newer shop is focused solely on nursery décor while my original shop has grown to include necklaces, calendars and stationery.

Quality materials and good design are priorities in my work. Everything I make starts with sketches, then I move on to a handcut paper mock up and, after a lot of tweaking, the final pieces are cut by either a laser cutter (wood) or a digital cutter (paper) in small batches and assembled by hand. Working in small batches keeps my work sustainable as it creates less waste as well as allows for more control over the quality.

My work is inspired by simple materials and creative patterns and is often compared to Scandinavian design (which I love). The themes and animals I create are chosen because I am inspired by their shape and how well they fit with my patterns. I design the patterns to be simple, based on an element from the animal’s life or habitat which demonstrates the connection between them, like the “pinecone” pattern found on my woodland animal suite and the “vine” pattern in my jungle theme suite.

Because all Tiny Little Nest pieces are simple and use the material's natural finishes, they are ideal genderneutral pieces for nursery or playroom perfect for a boy or girl – or both! This is not only a wonderful option for parentstobe who want to wait until the big day for the reveal, but it also makes my pieces suitable for reuse through multiple siblings, reducing waste of raw materials and natural resources.
